Joan Miro's main body of work is surrealist, but I'm rather fond of his minimal expressionist canvasses. These are sprinkled throughout his career, some as early as the late 20s, a couple in the 90s. Typically featuring playful, almost diagrammatic abstract constellation charts for an invented mythology. Dreamlike biomorphic shapes on a cream ground -- stars, dots, and simple creature-glyphs in primary colors.
