Maybe my favorite expressionist, with a prolific portfolio - producing nearly 1000 canvases and twice as many paper works during his life, most of which are housed at his namesake museum in Denver. Massive canvases with deep earth tones and flashes of vibrant color; color fields with jagged torn edges. Forms read like cropped landscapes, a few large color zones butting against each other with ragged seams.
